Kisumu Shinners C.B.O and Ampath Kenya-AYAM Launch Substance Use Support Training Program
admin2024-05-23T09:13:34+00:00In a concerted effort to tackle the pressing issues of substance abuse and mental health, Kisumu Shinners Community-Based Organization (C.B.O.), in collaboration with Ampath Kenya-AYAM and with support from Uhai Eashri, has launched a comprehensive one-week training program under their substance use support initiative.
The training, officially inaugurated by Madam Dorothy Oketch, a representative from the Ministry of Health, aims to empower participants with essential knowledge and skills. The goal is to equip them to serve as lay providers, playing a crucial role in reducing mental health issues and the risks associated with drug use among their peers.
“We are dedicated to raising awareness and dispelling taboos around drug use and mental health,” said a spokesperson from Kisumu Shinners C.B.O. “Through this program, we’re able to normalize tough conversations and collectively brainstorm solutions to challenges caused by drug use in our community.”
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster mental health awareness and promote community-driven solutions to substance abuse. By training local residents, the program hopes to create a sustainable network of support that can effectively address these issues from within the community.
Participants in the program will receive training on various aspects of substance use and mental health, including identifying early signs of addiction, providing initial support, and referring individuals to professional services when necessary. The emphasis on lay providers highlights the program’s commitment to community-based interventions, ensuring that support is accessible and relatable.
This initiative is also geared towards breaking the stigma associated with drug use and mental health problems, encouraging open dialogue and mutual support within the community. The collaborative efforts of Kisumu Shinners C.B.O., Ampath Kenya-AYAM, and Uhai Eashri underscore a unified approach to tackling these critical issues.
Join us in spreading awareness and supporting this vital cause. Together, we can make a difference.
